In September 2011, Dong-A Socio Holdings (formerly Dong-A Pharmaceutical) and Meiji Seika Pharma of Japan entered into a strategic partnership covering research and development (R&D), manufacturing, and marketing to expand into the biosimilar business, a key future growth engine for the pharmaceutical industry. The cornerstone of this partnership was the construction of a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility that meets global GMP standards, marking the beginning of what is now BTGEN.

To support manufacturing operations and future business development, the two companies established a joint venture, DM Bio (now BTGEN). Since then, the company has continuously expanded its biopharmaceutical CDMO business by building integrated facilities and technological capabilities for the efficient production of both Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Product (DP) in compliance with global quality and regulatory standards.

In October 2021, the company streamlined its ownership structure under Dong-A Socio Holdings to enable faster decision-making and focus on the development and commercialization of the psoriasis biosimilar DMB-3115. In March 2022, the company changed its name to STgen Bio, laying the foundation for its next stage of growth.

In May 2026, the company was renamed BTGEN to further strengthen its brand competitiveness in the global market. The name "BTGEN" combines "BT," representing Bio Technology, with "The Next Generation of Bio Technology," reflecting the company's vision of creating new growth opportunities through biotechnology and leading the next generation of biopharmaceutical innovation together with its customers.
